Show don't tell

This week in English we are looking at Narrative. A Narrative is a fancy term for a story. My task for today is show don't tell. What does show don't tell mean? Show don't tell is a technique to allow the reader to experience the story through action, words, thoughts, senses and feelings rather than the author exposition, summarization and description.

Here's some examples I'm going to re write to "show and not "tell"?

The buildings were tall
- Walking down the streets of Dubai there was an enormous building, I looked up with my head right back and still couldn't see it through the huge clouds.

Sarah was really upset
- Sarah wasn't having the best day at school, she went home breaking down into tears to allow herself to feel better afterwards.

She was so happy to see him
- She hadn't seen her boyfriend in 2 weeks, when they looked at each other she was so happy to see him she ran into his arms.

The lake was beautiful
- The lake shimmered as the bright yellow sun sit upon it, making the lake feel beautiful.

Language Features

In English we are working on creative writing tasks to help improve our skills when we write. Today I choose language features, for this task we had to choose 3 different types of languages features finding the definition, an example and an effect, and I choose personification, alliteration and allusion.

Here's my presentation on language features:

Smoothies -Home Economics

 Healthy Eating // Smoothies

Last Wednesday we made smoothies, all the different groups got handed a different flavored smoothie to make, my group got given chocolate banana smoothie. First we gathered all the ingredients, then we added the milk, bananas, honey, coco powder and icecream to the blender to start mixing everything together. Once everything was blended together smoothly we poured it into a measuring cup, so that everyone could pour a tiny amount to taste test it into a little shot glass.

We learnt new skills of you can literally mix everything together to make a good tasting smoothie.

They all looks so delicious to eat, some smelled so yum and so smelled weird, some tasted so amazing ans some tasted so unpleasant. I rate my chocolate banana smoothie 9/10, they was too much banana added to the smoothie.

In my team was me, Skyler, Reiya and we worked so well together again.

At the end of this lesson me and Jayden made an ultimate smoothie which was using the leftover ingredients as there was no more smoothie making for the school. We put 9 general ingredients in and 1 special ingredients in. The ingredients we using were milk, yogurt, pure orange juice, banana, peaches, frozen berries, frozen blueberries, a weet-bix and the special ingredient was vanilla essence. This smoothie tasted so delicious, actually tasted way better than the other one that were created and it was my favorite one yet.

Women rights essay

Introduction:
Women rights can be very different to mens, sometimes to extreme points of inequality. In certain countries women’s education is only upto 13 years in school because they are believed to stay home babysitting and cleaning the house. Also women are so underpaid compared to men in sport and have the least audience watching them play compared to men's sport too.

Paragraph 1 - what causes your topic?
Over the years women have barely had education because in some countries it’s believed they are to stay home everyday babysitting and cleaning the house, well the men go out working and making money for the household. It was thought by many people that that’s how women should live their lives and how men should live theirs. Also people constantly appreciate supporting men's sport leaving the women sport out of the picture, and women shouldn’t have to deal with getting underpaid when the men get paid big time.

Paragraph 2 - what are the impacts of your topic?
The impacts on women’s lives can lead them to maybe getting sexually assaulted, like men can get assaulted too but the majority of the time women can be left completely frightened because they are generally weaker than men are. So this means women have a least chance of fighting them off than men. Also if women don’t do the babysitting or clean the house they generally get beaten up or assaulted for not listening to the elder.

Paragraph 3 - what is the situation of your topic?
To this day now men still believe that women should babysit and clean the house, well the mean are out doing something. For many years Kate Sheppard was going for the freedom of women rights because everyone deserves equality. She did a very good job as women rights has improved, like they can finally vote in New Zealand, can stay in school until year 13 for a best education, not having to stay home babysitting and clean the house and least assaults have happened, so Kate Sheppard has done the best of women mostly in New Zealand.

Conclusion:
To finish this up women should have equal rights to men in everything possible, because women should be able to do what they like as they are their own person. Women rights are so important and have come a long way over the years because of this very important woman in New Zealand, Kate Sheppard.

Heart Dissection

What have we been learning about?
We have been learning about the heart, the different parts and how it works.

Why are we dissecting heart?
We dissected the heart to see all the different parts and how it feels all attached together. When we were   dissecting the heart there were to missing parts where were the atrium and veins. Since all the diagrams   looked the same we wanted to see for ourselves.

What are the parts of the heart? Did you see them?
While we were dissecting the heart we found different parts of the heart along the way like the valves, some  arteries, septum and heart springs. We also saw the thickness difference between the left and right side.

Did you enjoy the dissection? Why/why not?
I was alright, the smell was so bad and it felt so weird but otherwise it was good.

Rice Paper Spring Rolls -Home Economics

Healthy Eating // Rice Paper Springs Rolls

Last Wednesday we made rice paper spring rolls, first we cut the vegetables into little pieces like lettuce, carrot, cucumber, and also had white noodles. Next we soften the rice paper sheets in warm water to make it easier to fold, then we added all the ingredients in, first folding the sides then rolling it.

We learnt new skills of cutting vegetables into julienne scrips and the specific way to fold the rice paper springs rolls.

It looked good enough to eat, smelled very plastic, tasted so rough and disgusting. I rate my rice paper spring roll 2/10, could've added some meat and sauce so it wasn't dry.

In my team was me, Skyler, Reiya and we worked so well together.
